Cigar Review: Platino by Cordoba & Morales

Cordoba & Morales is a company that has deep roots in Cuba and has been more than a century in the making. C&M derives its name from Azarias Mustafa Cordoba's, the owner's, grandmother Celestina Cordoba y Morales and they credit their knowledge to her. Celestina grew up a tobacco farmer and taught Cordoba how to continue his family's tradition.

The Platino line is rolled 100% by a couple Cuban master rollers in Ybor. This line is also made in limited quantities which adds its uniqueness and perfection.
I would like to thank Emille Y. Mustafa, Azarias's wife and co-owner of C&M, for giving me additional information on the Platino line.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Esteli, Jalapa, and Condega
Binder: Habano from Jalapa
Wrapper: 4 year old Ecuadorian Sumatra

Vitola: This cigar is a Double Corona with a 54 ring gauge and 7 5/8th inch length. Jointly there is an unfinished foot as well as a very unique cap that does not require a cut.
Note: For consistency I did cut the cap.

Appearance: The Platino has a beautiful dark brown Sumatra wrapper with lighter shades near the veins.

Construction: The wrapper has a slight tooth with a good even pack with just the right amount of give.

Prelight: The prelight aroma gives off a great sent of sweet tobacco.

First Third: The first third of this cigar has notes of cocoa and earth with a bit of natural sweetness. Also, I received an interesting hint of mint and there are flavors of creme coming in.

Second Third: After getting a few inches into the Platino creme dominates the profile. Accompanying the creme are flavors of cocoa and sweet tobacco all of which have very rich full flavor.

Final Third: The last moments of this stick are still very dominated by creme with a hint of the cocoa and a slight dry finish.

Overall: In conclusion, this is a very rich and pleasurable cigar. If you happen to like creme in your cigars find this stick now. There is a great amount of smoke output both from the foot and the draw which is always a plus. Jointly, the draw through the smoke time is perfection. I was very impressed with the Platino and highly recommend you pick it up soon.
Note: If you are in the Central Florida area Cutter's Cigar located in Brandon carries the Cordoba & Morales lines,

Rating: 9/10

Thank you so much to Blaine Rodenbaugh for giving me this cigar for review.
