Cigar Review: Alec Bradley Black Market Filthy Hooligan Barbershop Pole (2016)

“This year, I wanted to create a totally different version of the Filthy Hooligan... The 2016 blend will have a much wider appeal, and those who loved the two previous versions will not be disappointed; this is no ordinary candela.” -Alec Rubin, president of Alec Bradley. This very unique seasonal cigar is definitely an eye catcher. The Filthy Hooligan Barbershop Pole that came out this year marks the 4th "green" themed cigar that the company has created for the Saint Patrick's Day holiday.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Honduran, Panamanian
Binder: Sumatra
Wrapper: Candela and Nicaraguan Jalapa (Barbershop Pole)

Vitola: This years Filthy Hooligan comes in one size, Toro, and comes in at 6 inches in length and a modest 50 ring gauge.

Appearance: This cigar has a beautifully rolled Barbershop Pole style with a deep brown and light green wrapper.

Construction: The cigar is smooth to the touch and has firm even pack.

Prelight: Before toasting, the aroma off the wrapper smells of grass and hay. After cutting, the cold draw provides and extra hint of pine.

First Third: The first third of the 2016 Hooligan has a mild strength and flavor of sweet grass and honey.

Second Third: As the stick burns through the halfway point there is a slightly uneven burn line. However, the imperfect burn is forgotten by the tastes of pine wood, grass, and sweet earth.

Final Third: As the cigar finishes off slightly stronger to almost a medium strength. The last tastes are flavors of grass and lots of pine.

Overall: Upon hearing of this year's new Filthy Hooligan I was immediately ecstatic, and for good reason. This line was the first candela I had ever experienced, the first one being the 2013 edition which I fell in love with, and through many conversations with other smokers there seems to be an agreement. Typical candelas are no where near their favorites but for Alec Bradley they can make and acceptation. I believe Alec Bradley really hit it out of the park this year with not only a fantastic looking cigar but one that also tastes fantastic. Now like all other seasonal lines there is only a limited supply, only 2,000 boxes of 22 to be exact, so if you happen to see it at your local shop grab it and through it in your pot o' gold.

Rating: 9/10

Thank you so much Blaine Rodenbaugh for giving me this cigar for review.
