Cigar Review: Xikar HC Series Maduro2

Xikar, yes the name synonymous with great cutters and lighters, created the HC Series in 2008. The HC Maduro2 uses the same fillers as the Habano2 but utilizes a Pennsylvanian Broadleaf Maduro wrapper giving it deeper flavors and an added strength.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Honduran and Nicaraguan
Binder: Sumatra
Wrapper: Pennsylvanian Broadleaf Maduro

Vitola: This box-pressed Toro comes in at a 52 ring gauge and a length of 6 1/2 inches

Appearance: Dark brown in color and a visibly rolled wrapper

Construction: The Maduro2 is very smooth and has a slightly spongy give but is rolled tightly.

Prelight: The aroma at the foot as well as the cold draw presents tastes of sweet earth and tobacco.

First Third: At the immediate lighting a deep, almost harsh, earth flavor boasts itself and has a long finish lingering pepper and spice. After getting into the cigar these flavors tone down into lots of creme with sweet earth, tobacco, and a hint of spice.

Second Third: Moving more into the full body range, the second third gives lots of creme and earth with a hint of pepper and espresso.

Final Third: The last inches of the cigar stay consistent with lots of creme but gives room for some espresso and that lasting pepper on the finish.

Overall: After smoking this cigar I definitely felt the full bodiedness it can have and I really enjoyed the creaminess of the smoke. I have seen this cigar in multiple humidors but had not picked it up, do not make my mistake by missing out on this unique Xikar cigar.

Rating: 8/10

Thank you to Blaine Rodenbaugh for giving me this cigar for review.
