Cigar Review: Phenom No. 3 from FQ Cigars

FQ Cigars, or Fernandez Ouiroga Cigars, is a small boutique brand that has gained a lot of traction since their start in 2013. The owner, Matt Hunt, comes from a family history of tobacco farmers and individuals that selected only the best tobacco for cigars in Cuba. Combining his passion of cigars and his roots in the industry, Matt Hunt created this brand to stand for cigars that are rolled by only the finest tobaccos.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Honduran and Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano
(All of which are of Cuban seed)

Vitola: This cigar comes in at a 50 ring gauge and measures to 5 inches in length making it a Robusto.

Appearance: The Phenom No. 3 has a beautiful brown glow with a great pure leaf look.

Construction: A firm even pack encompasses the cigar with a slight tooth but smooth feel in the fingers.

Prelight: The prlight aroma has touches of sweetness and pepper and the cold draw provides a rich sweet tobacco taste.

First Third: The first third has a large flavor profile with pepper, deep earth, and nuttiness. There is also a hint of natural sweetness through the thick smoke.

Second Third: With pepper diminishing, the second third keeps the large tastes of earth with a slight sweetness and nice chocolate notes are starting to coming in.

Final Third: This final third keeps with the deep earth tones that it has boasted throughout while joining flavors of espresso and tobacco.

Overall: The Phenom No 3 is for the earthy tone lover. With a near perfect burn and a thick smokey draw, this cigar is very well rolled. The only drawback I found is the very dry finish I experienced throughout the smoke time, but as long as one has a beverage to accompany this stick the experience is something to envy.

Rating: 8.5/10
