Cigar Review: Last Call by A.J. Fernandez

“It is the perfect cigar to start the day alongside a shot of Cuban coffee, as a quick smoke during time spent between the farms and factory, and is a great way to end the evening with family and friends.” -Abdel Fernandez, Founder of A.J. Fernandez
Until March of 2016 the only way you would be able to smoke this cigar is if you were given one. The man dealing out the sticks pre-release was none other than Abdel Fernandez, founder of A.J. Fernandez. Fernandez would give these exclusive cigars to a lucky few at Monday and Thursday night NFL games. After seeing the enjoyment on all the cigar smoker's faces Abdel decided to put them into production. They are the first of a brand new line coming to the company titled Portfolio Series. The Last Call is also a Brick & Mortar Exclusive.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Vitola: The Last Call maybe a small Corona Gorda at 4 1/2 inches in length and a 48 ring gauge but do not let that fool you.

Appearance: Very rounded pack with great reflection of sheen off the wrapper.

Construction: Firm and smooth with a bit of texture on the fingers.

Prelight: The prelight draw was airy with sweet hay and a slight rustic aroma.

First Third: The first third of this stick had a natural sweetness accompanied by notes of earth and a taste I can only describe as doughy. The retro had a good kick of pepper.

Second Third: Midway through the cigar I found flavors of cinnamon, pastry, and over sweet with pepper. While there are only subtle notes of creme the smoke and mouth feel is very creamy.

Final Third: The last inch or so of the cigar had more creme involved but more of a desert creme than a coffee type creme taste, something that is quite unique and enjoyable. Jointly the finishing puffs had smooth pepper and upgraded itself to a full body.

Overall: Although this Last Call maybe small, it definitely packs a punch. With unique desert flavors and a medium to full blend, A.J. Fernandez has done it again. One of the best highlights is also the price tag so grab one (probably more) and enjoy.

Rating: 8.5/10
