Cigar Reviews: Victor Calvo Habano

Victor Calvo Premium Cigars is a Florida local manufacture located in the city of Opa-locka. This boutique company has blanketed the entire state so be sure to keep an eye out if you are in the region. Their cigars are hand rolled in Tabacalera Tambor de Esteli, so these sticks come right from the source of tobacco growing heaven.

The Anatomy of this cigar consists of
Filler: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Vitola: This Lancero measures to 7 inches in length with a 38 ring gauge.

Appearance: Dark brown with visible veins and seams.

Construction: A very firm pack with a smooth, but not oily, wrapper.

Prelight: The Habano has a sweet barnyard aroma with a nice chocolate note on the foot while the cold draw gives the same sweet barnyard with some added sweet tobacco, and no, this cigar does not have sweetened cap.

First Third: The beginning of this stick has that sweet barnyard and tobacco as the cold draw with a smooth retro-hale that does not blast your nostrils with spice. Near the end of this third I noticed some coffee coming in.

Second Third: The hint of coffee from before has not completely changed the profile of the cigar giving it some nice dark roast tastes. Jointly, there is some spice coming in as well as some wood, possibly cedar, on the retro.

Final Third: The final inches of this cigar keep with the second third but provide slightly more body with a smooth finish.

Overall: It seems that one of the most popular sizes of cigars is the Lancero and the Victor Calvo Habano makes that easy to understand. The small ring gauge should not be dismissed as this stick especially gave some great tastes and was quite enjoyable. My recommendation would be to have this cigar with some nice freshly brewed coffee to give your morning a little pick-me-up and ensure the rest of your day will be grand.
